Sugar Man Rodriguez visits Madison on Silver Screen

The Sugar Man returns to Madison. Sixto Diaz Rodriguez, the Detroit-born cult musician whose life story resembles an edgy movie script, gets his due in the documentary Searching for Sugar Man. After releasing several unsuccessful folk albums in the early 70's and fading into obscurity, Rodriguez is resurrected into the spotlight by South African supporters of the anti-apartheid movement who embrace his poetic music as a cultural catalyst.

Madison's Lost City Music Festival complete schedule

Local label Mine All Mine Records along with Murfie Music present the inaugural Lost City Music Festival Thursday, July 5th through Sunday, July 8th featuring over 70 bands across six venues in Madison. The schedule is loaded with regional musicians from across the Midwest including Milwaukee indie slackers Sat. Nite Duets, and Chicago's Mutts who have the distinction of sounding like Tom Waits meets the White Stripes. Besides the heavy contingent of Madison bands, there is a spattering of representation from both coasts.

Educational seminars, a film screening and a bowling tournament round out the event with a $10 wristband guaranteeing entry to all shows. The non-profit festival will donate all proceeds to local music charities.
