Shirley Manson’s hair is even a redder-red now, tightly pulled back and stacked atop her head in an erect cylinder. She has followed the band on stage and is beaming. This smiling Scot strikes a stark contrast to the v1.0 Shirley Manson who always seemed to me more Manson than Shirley. I and the rest of the world were first introduced to Garbage back in 1995 with their pink-feathered covered self-titled debut.

Madison is a liberal political bastion that attracts activist musicians from around the country. The recall election between Governor Scott Walker and his Democratic opponent, Tom Barrett, has fired up the grassroots revolutionary spirit. Tom Morello, Jackson Browne, Tim McIlrath, Brother Ali and Mike McColgan stopped by the Labor Temple in Madison to play for a "Get Out The Vote" rally.

Jennifer Herrema and RTX is Black Bananas

Jennifer Herrema, the iconic "heroin chic" poster girl of the 90s and one-half of the influential Royal Trux band, has a new project out called Black Bananas. Reincarnated from her last band RTX, Black Bananas released "Rad Times Xpress IV" in January and have been on the road with with Sleigh Bells and Heavy Cream. More recently the band has been providing support for Kurt Vile.

Surgeons in Heat fires up der Rathskeller crowd for vinyl release party

The weather may not have cooperated for the first Memorial Union Terrace show of the year, but that didn’t stop Surgeons in Heat from displaying an infectious indie hybrid of blue-eyed soul and R&B funkiness that kept the energetic Rathskeller crowd dancing indoors until midnight.

Lead Singer and songwriter Johnathon Mayer with essentially Madison’s Pioneer, Tyler Ditter, Kenny Monroe and Shawn Pierce, as a  well-oiled accompaniment were wrapping up a string of 12 dates including a trek down the East Coast.
