Rock of the Arts, a Madison, Wisconsin-based indie music blog, is excited to be working with the Berklee College of Music and Topspin to help forge the new digital music paradigm.
“We’re part of the first public group to be formally trained on the new Topspin direct-to-fan marketing platform,” said Rick Panneck, owner and editor of Rock of the Arts. “While the changing music industry landscape has driven many record labels and studios out of business, it also offers new opportunities for entrepreneurs,“ continues Panneck. “We’re at the forefront of a new business model for the music industry and we feel there is no better place to lead the change than Madison.”
Direct-to-fan marketing is a new concept that eliminates the middle man through the use of social media and other Internet tools that allow musicians to directly interact and sell music to their fans. A power shift is occurring in the music business, from the traditional gatekeepers such as radio and record labels, back to the artist through direct-to-fan initiatives.
Topspin is professional-grade software for artists and their managers. It’s the most complete technology platform for creating your own retail channel, effectively promoting your music and connecting directly with your fans. Artists like Davide Byrne and Brian Eno, Arcade Fire, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Eels are believers in the direct-to-fan mantra.
“Wisconsin has a healthy independent music scene,” continues Panneck. “Events like the Forward Music Festival and Steel Bridge Songfest have helped build a synergy for musicians performing original material. Rock of the Arts wants to make our contribution to the music community through viral marketing services via the Topspin direct-to-fan platform.“
“We are looking forward to incorporating Topspin functionality into our web site and sharing digital marketing best practices with the Rock of the Arts faithful,” said Panneck. “Join the indie music revolution and be the first to experience this cutting edge technology.”
Rock of the Arts will be attending the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas to network with like-minded visionaries spreading the direct-to-fan gospel. Watch for more articles on the future of music!
